uh for the children but at the same time i do not want to shave the beard so uh there's a there's a significant con

conflict there you know what i think i'm going to be making some donations people people like our payton

as we've noticed from last year um but we will be having people tested for covid uh we're going to be bringing

in a group of people together uh to play i think about seven of us right six or seven of us who are going to be playing

sure uh we'll be playing oh sorry go ahead no i was just gonna i don't know how many are in the party

um but uh it'll at least probably be five or six yeah okay better that are that are in the party

i'll be dming sorry yeah so stephen will should be jamming this time instead of mcp um and we'll have a group of people that

will be joining us we're going to test for kovid we're going to be safe but that group of people will be together we're going to

also have some call in time so we'll have some break time so people can eat our our 16 plus our pathfinder crew can

actually get some get some sleep we actually have a four hour break during the evening for them to take a nap and in that four

hour break we're doing a minecraft veran building which will be really fun

where you guys and chat are going to pick from a slew so a slew of buildings varying buildings

which the which they don't know which buildings they are and they're not going to know until the moment you all vote

and then they're gonna see it and then we're gonna follow them around it's gonna be survival mode pvp on they can totally

mess with each other and at the end of the three or four hours uh we will do our judging and we'll see

we'll see we'll see what's what's goodness um we'll be hopping into their different uh teamspeak channels and stuff and asking

them questions and spying on them throughout it'll be good good times um so definitely come

hang out with us also something different this year for the um for the dnd campaign or sorry the

pathfinder campaign is each player will have an opportunity to find cash prizes within the world

of vera for their character based off of what achievements they make in their storyline

  • 8:27

and the company will be matching the cash prize that goes to the player uh towards the donation of the extra

  • 8:34

life event as well now if they die however if their character

  • 8:39

dies their cash rewards get halved and they get halved each time they die

  • 8:45

so they need to try to stay alive and players can donate to impact help or

  • 8:52

be a detriment to the player i'm going to need to add like another section to the overlay then because i

  • 8:59

would love to have like a count counter of every character's amounts okay that gives me ideas i'll have to

figure out how that's going to work because ian's going to have to update that in live time yeah and the total cash prize per player

can be up to one thousand dollars if they don't die wow and if they manage to achieve all of

these points just so you know steven is ruthless he is a ruthless jet

it's a good time and it's for the children it's on you know like off our work time it's a separate you know it's on the

weekend um everyone's just kind of volunteering their time for it and we hope that you all have fun it's going to be good times

um so and you'll get to meet some new folks on our team because a few of them are going to be playing some various games

with us we'll also be doing like among us and some more jack box games where you guys can as viewers be part of it

um so yeah come come hang out with us it's going to be great beyond that um i want to move on to our

studio updates stephen if you want to talk about that and then also talk about our

Studio Update

creative director's letter which i will pop up on screen the timeline once you get to that

absolutely yeah so um as many of you likely have read we did release the

  • 10:18

creative director's letter uh in october and in that letter we did reveal the

  • 10:26

testing date schedule for alpha one now this is the schedule as it is today but

  • 10:34

with development it is entirely possible i want to make sure we're setting the right expectations it is entirely possible that

  • 10:39

as these periods come about there are things that we need to address or there could be delays that occur that

  • 10:45

occur based on kind of are iterating through what we're learning from these different test dates so

  • 10:51

uh keep that in mind be cognizant of that um however as things stand uh we do have the first testing with all

  • 10:57

alpha one uh participants coming up in uh december uh it'll be a four day test

  • 11:02

after which there'll be a full wipe of the servers that will be under nda however i will be obviously uh streaming the

  • 11:10

studio will be releasing video content of those events so you can kind of see the state

  • 11:15

of the game during during the nda relevant pretests and then following up

  • 11:21

on that in february there will be an additional four-day test preparing for the month-long alpha one

  • 11:28

uh that will still be under nda and then come march we will have a one-week test in preparation for the full month test

  • 11:35

that will not be on our nda and we will be inviting our official content creators of which we will be releasing

  • 11:41

information more information uh probably around um the start of the new year

  • 11:46

for what that content creator program looks like i know margaret's been doing some work on that with the community team and preparing the official content

  • 11:53

creator program for next year so excited too yes and we're excited to kind of to roll

  • 11:58

that out um additionally as you guys have probably been aware of the last couple of live streams we did go through

our hiring period um our hiring phase and that is predominantly finished there still obviously are going to be

  • 12:10

positions that are left up on the um on the intrepidstudios.com website

and that's because we're always looking for talent in certain positions and certain positions have multiple seats at

  • 12:21

the studio so it's important to keep those up as as we kind of continue to move through the year our

  • 12:26

next major hiring phase uh which will probably start around the end of january time frame you'll receive

more information on that you guys can help us as you guys have already helped us and done a great job and kind of spreading

the word for Intrepid Studios and Ashes of Creation we've received like our social media

like you all have been so lovely violet light has been just loving interacting with you all and me

too i pop in there and i know steven does too we have so many amazing people leaving

wonderful comments and you're engaging with us on a lot of our funny questions that we offer and some of them are development

oriented we're definitely we try to sneak those in there outside of the dub discussions so yeah

and i want to also say like all of the sometimes we go to like respond to somebody and someone else in our

community has already like responded to a tweet responded to a facebook post responded in discord so like

all of those things are very welcoming and helpful and you know you don't need to be condescending to anybody you can

just give them the answers because a lot of people just don't know they you know like that's the first time hopping in and seeing Ashes of Creation

and for you all to be really welcoming is going to make me cry yeah i've been a part as a player

  • 13:39

you know part of a lot of mmorpg communities and one thing that's extremely evident to me

  • 13:46

and i think the rest of the intrepid team is just how welcoming um and and positive and

  • 13:54

friendly uh the Ashes of Creation community is i mean it's important obviously as you create

  • 14:00

an mmorpg that the ecosphere in which the community exists is a positive one

  • 14:05

and is a friendly and inviting and and welcoming one because that aids in the momentum of

  • 14:12

population when it comes to people staying and sticking to the server and the game that social

  • 14:18

experience is an important one and having a good community is really an integral component of

  • 14:24

that highly social environment that people want to be a part of so you guys have done an amazing job in in kind of satisfying the itch of

  • 14:32

what a good good community can be uh for a lot of players who either might be new to the mmrpg genre

  • 14:38

uh or may have not experienced this community since the the heydays of mmos that they

  • 14:44

were originally part of and this is that nostalgic fever some people even said this is going to be their first mmo which

  • 14:49

i'm like oh that's so cool yeah i'm like i remember my first mmo you know like and i look back at the fond memories

  • 14:56

that i have and the nostalgia that i have and i hope that we can bring that to other people

  • 15:01

yeah yeah just always keep in mind the more people are the more fun this game gets um and it's kind of that's how we're

  • 15:07

building it is more people the more more opportunities for cool things to happen so

yeah so that's kind of the um the studio update uh the creative director's letter the dates

that were announced um and by the way i missed the last date the last date is uh the month long

  • 15:24

test that's going to be yeah the most important thing the month-long test that's going to be um in april uh starting april 6th going

to may 6th obviously just to reiterate once more alpha 1 this is a true development alpha this is

not a marketing alpha and what that means is as you know part of the pro process here

in developing Ashes of Creation is being open with that development so you guys can see that progress

and it is a double-edged sword people are you know they're going to be a spectrum of people that exists who are

  • 15:56

very involved with the games development and those who are just completely you know at an arm's length away in

  • 16:02

understanding the process and they may look at you know alpha one the people who don't really

  • 16:07

understand the development process or haven't been a part of it they may look at it and they may think oh you know this is trash looks like trash you know

  • 16:13

whatever the cn product but at the end of the day what's important for us and what yields the

  • 16:18

best possible product is for us to include as much as possible the community in that development process uh with no

  • 16:26

nda so that you guys give valuable feedback and as we go through the iterative process in further defining the game

  • 16:32

and fleshing out that content were doing so with the player in mind and their voice

  • 16:38

in our ear that's that that is i think one of the key distinguishing factors between

  • 16:44

our development and many developments that you guys may have seen in the past and products that have shipped in the past or are still shipping today

um that don't include that process um so you know we we've kind of hung our hat on that being a a positive thing and

  • 16:57

we're going to continue forward doing so uh taking into account the two-sidedness of that sort

yeah you know what's funny is um i just did like a igda meetup and a lot of developers were talking about

how you know closed doors development is and you know someone even mentioned that intrepid is

a is a great um they used it as an example for uh like a good open development i was like i wish for them

and that person i don't think the person realized it because obviously i was dressed up as like a costume um but it was really um it was a moment

where i was like oh i'm so proud of everybody like we definitely try our best and i think you know no matter what we're we're going to make

  • 17:34

mistakes i want to be upfront about that like it's going to happen um you know and obviously throughout our

  • 17:39

process we're going to learn a lot of things so you're learning it with us so thank you so much for being on the journey

with us and being understanding um it goes a long way and you know it's not something that everyone's doing

um so yeah um yeah anything else you want to add steven no

i think that's it cool but i think we can move on to the design update do we want to play the video first yeah but let me preface

Design Update - Combat, PvP, Castle Sieges

this video um so we did a little short video and just to give you guys an idea um you

know as we've been leading up to the december test for for alpha one you know we've been

  • 18:18

trying to optimize as much as possible a lot of the network traffic that occurs on

  • 18:25

the server the processing that happens on on you know different server workers and obviously

  • 18:30

one of the largest um you know most costly uh aspect of

  • 18:37

of the game play is player movement and the more players you include in a

  • 18:42

in an area that the higher player density um you know the the kind of exponential that that

  • 18:47

replication occurs between knowing the position and updates of players around you that are relevant

  • 18:53

um and as you add more players that becomes you know very very very a lot so the engineering team has been

  • 18:59

working pretty diligently at least over the past few weeks on on optimizing as much as possible the

  • 19:06

way movement in unreal engine works kind of customizing a little bit uh uh you know what we need for ashes of

  • 19:13

creation uh for that to to to encompass a large portion of players now yesterday um you

  • 19:20

know the smaller amount of people i think we only had about 80-ish that were connected in a very

  • 19:26

dense location all everybody around each other but that gives us good metrics uh for us

  • 19:31

to kind of understand how that's going to scale as as it goes up even further so i wanted to just take a quick little

  • 19:38

video to kind of show the progress in seeing those amount of players kind of their movement being

  • 19:44

fluid and smooth around each other kind of getting that update a lot better than than where it was you know two months

  • 19:50

ago and two months prior to that two months prior to that you know it's a process um but what you're gonna see

  • 19:55

is just a little short little pvp battle at a castle um you know obviously very very

  • 20:01

important to keep in mind a lot of the effects are still very first pass

  • 20:06

and many have not had an opportunity to take second passes on so you're going to see them being you know

  • 20:11

maybe overly bright a little oversized but that kind of stuff is is easy to

  • 20:16

kind of second pass on so we that's why we don't prioritize it um you know early on um so don't take

  • 20:22

too much issue with the with the over uh effect stuff there and animations are still um in progress so there might be some

  • 20:29

changes that you'll see coming along the lines with those as well yeah absolutely so just wanted a preface okay all right

give you guys a little bit of a um a refresh as you guys know um you know we're working currently towards

  • 21:28

alpha one a lot of what we've been doing uh in today's test has been iterating upon some of the um player

  • 21:35

character movement and how that uh needed to be a little smoothed up and we've gotten some good progress out

  • 21:42

of today's testing uh compliments of our glorious engineering team in particular uh adam turpitch has been doing a great

  • 21:48

job on the uh movement update so that's good to see but what you guys can see

  • 21:54

now is we're in front of a castle and as you guys know uh castles can be owned by

  • 22:00

guilds essentially guilds that are capable of of winning the siege the initial siege

  • 22:05

of a castle and defending it over time some of the things we've talked about in the past a little bit about castle

  • 22:10

sieges is that in the weeks preceding the actual castle siege there will be nodes that the owning guild will have to

  • 22:17

kind of develop and part of that development is kind of collecting taxes from the nodes that exist under the

  • 22:24

purview of that economic region that this castle holds control over so while obviously

  • 22:30

not all the systems are are in place for alpha what we thought we'd do today is demonstrate a little

  • 22:35

bit of some some group v group combat uh within the castle there is an objective inside this particular

  • 22:41

castle right now there is a little tax caravan in there um and as the attackers we are going to

  • 22:47

try to get a foothold inside uh eliminate the defending players and see if we can destroy some of the uh caravans

  • 22:54

try you could try to eliminate are you in the enemy team margaret i am on the other she is oh my gosh

you're oh are you spying what's the uh what are the defenders doing in there they're not

  • 23:09

setting up in a defending position like they should be oh they're only angry now that i said that

but anyways guys is it all in one place now just wanted to show you some of the very early alpha one uh combat obviously

we're going through a significant overhaul of the combat stats system

  • 27:19

in addition you'll likely see in the non-nba version of the alpha one some major changes in the general feel

and appearance of combat as our designers are continuing to overhaul and iterate on the testing that we've done

  • 27:33

thus far so um really appreciate everybody kind of tuning in and watching this video hope you guys enjoyed obviously as i said

it's early but uh you'll be able to then see hey alex what are you trying to do here unbelievable

all right so we're just going to have the the game play kind of playing in the background while we chat um but i noticed that there was a lot of

comments in regards to specifically the particle effects which we did address before we played the video right if you want to talk a little bit

about that again yeah and just to kind of give you guys ideas right like as um oh you know i was watching the

  • 28:22

stream and it's okay there we go um as we develop and our effects artists which jim is a

  • 28:29

very very talented effects artist as you can see with the effects but when it comes to kind of polishing those

  • 28:35

effects that includes a few factors one some of the effects need significant

  • 28:41

reductions in their general size um and uh that's because obviously as you enter

  • 28:47

into kind of raid situations whether it be raid versus raid or pve events where

  • 28:53

you know you have a lot of players that are kind of using these effects not only will the effects be customizable on the client side to kind

  • 29:00

of tune them to a degree but also our second and third passes

  • 29:06

from the fx team is going to be taking a look at reducing

  • 29:12

some of these sizes like the black hole effect or the template that's on the ground for the meteor effect

  • 29:18

the brightness of particles is also something that gets that will be you know iterated on

  • 29:26

uh some of the particles are very bright uh as well but you know the idea here is to to you know

  • 29:31

from an effects path standpoint you kind of you have these list of abilities that exist obviously with all

  • 29:37

the different classes that are present and as you're running through to get effects in place for all of them you're making these

  • 29:43

first passes on each of these abilities and that's getting implemented uh into into the game's development now

  • 29:50

you guys may have heard the term like gray box when referring to you know games that are in development

  • 29:55

if they don't have an asset they'll use a gray box right or they'll throw something in that's kind of placeholder our approach is similar in that regard

with effects right in the sense that we're not throwing in gray box particles per se right

  • 30:07

we're throwing in a representation of what the particle uh coloration's going to be you know how

  • 30:12

it's uh interaction's going to look like but it just hasn't had that second and third pass so you're going to see that

kind of often through different alpha footages that you're going to get uh in in alpha one uh because our

  • 30:24

philosophy is let's throw the first pass in there and then as we kind of get all of those in place for

  • 30:30

each of the classes then we'll go back and do second pass we'll we'll tune them appropriately

  • 30:36

cool um and i think there were some concerns about like uh colorblindness and epilepsy and stuff

  • 30:44

like that i don't know if you guys want to kind of talk about that and address that a little bit obviously i know that'll be like further down the line as well but those are

  • 30:50

things that you guys are definitely thinking about as you're creating these things right for sure i mean little known fact i

  • 30:56

don't know how many people know but i'm actually red and green colorblind um and uh it is definitely an important

  • 31:03

aspect of you know in particular of uh ui related informational type um

  • 31:11

uh uh things so that that includes like you know the attacker that'll have like a red icon next to them it's not just

  • 31:16

going to be color dependent there'll also be a texture there will also be a an icon like a sword to represent that for defenders you'll

  • 31:23

have a shield and a you know blue background with a different type of texture on that same is true for a lot of

  • 31:29

different user interface uh uh points um that'll be present uh that are informational in the in the

about that a little bit um so as was described kind of in the video with regards to the taxation

and each week kind of leading up to uh the ultimate castle siege itself

  • 31:58

uh one of the important aspects on a weekend basis that's going to occur between the

  • 32:04

relationship that the castle has with nodes under its purview and its economic region is going to be

  • 32:10

moving those npc generated caravans at a time that the lord determines of the

  • 32:16

castle uh but it has to be during one of the uh one of the weekends and the week's proceeding

  • 32:22

and if they don't make that choice it'll be by default not at a certain time period that's central to the to the uh to the server's

  • 32:28

core time time zone um but uh those then npc driven caravans will make their way

  • 32:34

to one of the subordinate nodes around the castle and those nodes you know obviously are different than

  • 32:40

the node system and the vera proper these are dedicated specifically to the castles

  • 32:46

and as those taxes tax revenues come in they help to build and support one of those nodes corresponding to

  • 32:53

which weak it is there's three nodes three preceding weeks to the castle siege week um and then

  • 32:59

players who are perhaps enemies of that guild have an opportunity to intercept destroy and raid loot uh

  • 33:06

those uh those caravans so while those while a lot of those systems aren't currently set up in alpha one

  • 33:13

um we do have the caravan system uh set up that you can assign yourself as attacker defender uh we have some of the castles that are

  • 33:19

present in alpha one that you can see and we just kind of wanted to use this kind of demonstration to to show you

  • 33:24

what this might look like at a smaller scale um yeah i think that for jeff actually

  • 33:29

if you want wouldn't mind talking a little bit about it when it comes to classes and pvp what is kind of like your design theory

  • 33:36

on like designing for that obviously i know we have a lot of people who are interested in pvp and um balance is kind of a lot of

  • 33:43

people's concern with 64 classes i mean yeah it's a big huge gigantic

  • 33:50

thing to work on right um but the way that we're approaching it philosophically is is not 1v1 combat right like that would

  • 33:58

be an impossible thing for us to really do and it's not really a direction we want to go with the game right um

  • 34:04

we're really focused on sort of mass pvp right so not like one-on-one kind of encounters not really even party versus

  • 34:11

party encounters but like these big big you know fights around uh nodes

  • 34:17

these big fights around castles these big fights around caravans so a lot of it is trying to

  • 34:24

figure out ways and balancing ways for classes to work together synergistically so that like your focus as as a team is

  • 34:32

building out the best um the the comp that synergizes best for what

  • 34:38

you've got um and we balance it that way so so we balance party on party we balance party group on group and sort of

  • 34:45

the different configurations of those things so we look at it more as a macro scale balance problem rather

  • 34:51

than like a micro scale balance problem so there will certainly be classes then especially depending on your builds

  • 34:57

because we are a build focused game that just blow other comps out of the water and that's okay for us

  • 35:03

but what we do want is for parties to be relatively well balanced as long as they've been built

  • 35:09

sort of with the encounter in mind right and just to expand a little bit on that

  • 35:14

um you know we have a specific terminology when referring to

  • 35:19

archetypes and classes classes are the combination of your secondary archetype with your primary

  • 35:25

archetype right and a base archetype is one of the eight base archetypes that we have present the

  • 35:31

four marshals and the four arcane the ranger fighter tank um

  • 35:37

and uh rogue and the cleric bard mage and summoner

  • 35:44

right so those are the eight archetypes now when you look at balancing um as jeff was saying we kind

  • 35:49

of focus more on the group and even larger as a balancing aspect and what that means is we're adhering to

  • 35:55

kind of the holy trinity principles and at the same time that represents kind of a rock paper scissors balance between

  • 36:01

individual archetypes and classes so it's understood that that some classes and or archetypes on a 1v1

  • 36:08

basis will be disadvantaged or will have the advantage and that we're okay with that

  • 36:13

because again our focus is the larger engagements

  • 36:18

and with that being said the active skills stem from your base archetype so from a

  • 36:25

design standpoint even though augments do radically change the way your active skills

  • 36:31

uh kind of provide you abilities

  • 36:36

there's still a primary focus on on the base archetype itself and not the 64 whole classes so

  • 36:44

that's that's a really good point right where we're not really talking about 64 true classes we're talking about

  • 36:49

eight classes with 64 variants um and again like how you build those

  • 36:54

variants kind of depend on where you spend your skill points um you know you could lean more into

  • 36:59

your subclass or lean less into your subclass depending on where you're putting your points um so there isn't as

  • 37:06

much variance between the 64 classes as you might expect right it's not like

  • 37:12

there are you know 64 different versions of i don't know like radically different

  • 37:17

classes there are eight classes eight archetypes that are all you know they have the same chassis

  • 37:23

but then they have different augments put on top of that to sort of change the performance of that chassis

  • 37:30

to make a car analogy or a caravan okay

  • 37:36

awesome and obviously you all can ask further questions um in future updates and stuff like that

so definitely toss us your questions i know we have a few other questions that are in the in the mix of things

that i will be asking during our q a segment but we're gonna move on to our environment segment if you guys are both okay with

further but obviously there's more work being done every month than this this is part of a big system that will affect

um so if you don't mind talking a little bit about what's happened between last month to this month in regards to that and i will go

about uh the node process and that oh the node process like what is the

work that's gone on between last month and this month obviously it's a core system that we have

yeah yeah yeah um so essentially uh you guys are distracting them stop it chat no i'm sorry

i'm sorry so um moving into alpha 1 we've started to stand up additional

Environment Art Update - Node Work & Plant Life

components for how design and environment approach the propagation of nodes within the

  • 39:28

world so originally it was a little bit more brute force and manual how the placement of buildings within a

  • 39:35

node's essential levels and as it leveled up it would it would unmask those buildings it would it would

  • 39:40

show those buildings so to speak what we've done now is engineering has provided a tools to

  • 39:46

essentially give the design team this design data table by which they can drive at scale the

  • 39:54

larger selection of nodes that exist within the world jeff if you want to expand a little bit on that yeah so um as stephen was saying

  • 40:02

before like the tech for the node system that you've seen previously has all been sort of like the underlying back-end stuff that

  • 40:09

manages all that but in terms of like the actual presentation of the note it was all

  • 40:14

fairly static so we had kind of the same node stamped across the world um and each note kind of felt the same

  • 40:22

right so now what we're getting and what has kind of been unlocked is the ability to do things more

  • 40:28

dynamically and more procedurally so that when a node spawns there is the opportunity

  • 40:34

to have different layouts and have different buildings and have different sort of architectures um and uh

  • 40:42

each node starts to feel like its own place right so it's not the same node over and over again now we've got a node that kind of

  • 40:48

evolves and changes uh depending on on where it's at and um what the

  • 40:54

environment is and what race is procked it um so we start to get some of that differentiation um that we haven't had

  • 40:59

previously um and so this is what i call like our real node system now we can

  • 41:07

um do some really cool things where you know when one node a node levels up

  • 41:14

it maintains this sort of um the same feeling so it feels like it's growing out from its city center

  • 41:19

right um and it has this identity that it kind of evolves and and um people get to understand it

  • 41:27

but then when it gets destroyed and it starts over again and people re-level it it's completely different the next time so

  • 41:32

um that's that's a lot of like where we're playing with right now and trying to figure out sort of the best way for design to

  • 41:39

approach that problem in terms of populating npcs and um putting quests in

  • 41:44

making those quests smart um so that's kind of where we're at at that point we're playing with the

  • 41:49

the real node system and that's sort of what you'll be starting to see um in these alpha

  • 41:54

previews there's still a lot of work that needs to be done there um so it will feel more static than what i'm talking about but

  • 42:00

the underlying architecture is there and as we get more and more assets we'll be able to sort of build that out

  • 42:05

and get that full dynamic feeling awesome and then i do have

  • 42:13

some other things that i want to bring up so i'm going to move those up in this in the scene here

so we can go over those um we've also got some like cool rocks like

this is uh kind of like these this is no wrong you know that's not a rock that's a uh that's an overhead

overhang on the of that concept that yeah exactly that we showed previously

in the past i believe this this mesh kind of helps to facilitate uh that over arc that exists where ships can

kind of sail through uh along the ocean yeah and that's that's a that's a house down there it's a rock

for us it's like this is those and those are little npcs and stuff down there yep those are little houses the scale

  • 42:59

of how big that thing is um and then obviously we have some more uh plant life that has been being given

  • 43:06

some love i saw you guys commenting on the grass which is funny because everyone's like we've had that grass there forever we

  • 43:11

all really liked it um there's even more amazing plant life coming if you're if

  • 43:17

you're a plant mom like me or plant dad whatever whatever you define yourself as there's lots there's

  • 43:23

more coming i would like to have my house filled with plants stephen so yeah i mean one of one of the you know

  • 43:30

big directives um for the environment team and i know mia has been um amazing in this regard

  • 43:39

is each of the biomes really need to have a a fairly eclectic selection of

  • 43:47

plant life a vegetation of foliage you know these help to create the

  • 43:54

atmosphere that you are really immersed in um you know this this

  • 43:59

this different climate zone um and and that that's obviously you know

  • 44:04

something that we as players enjoy uh when we get to see a significant diversity of

  • 44:10

of uh plant life um because it does lend itself to the immersive nature of the world and the world just looks so beautiful it

  • 44:16

it makes sense for us to have so much dynamicism yeah absolutely um i think

  • 44:22

what you know people are saying can you grow your own plants and then put them in your house and stuff like that i would hope so i would love to hopefully

  • 44:27

yeah create my own little plants and then put them in my house and potted them i lit i just want to live my best witch life

  • 44:33

i'm just saying she's a green witch yes there are crops that you can

  • 44:38

there's crops you can have on your freeholds there's little garden sections that you can have on the static housing

  • 44:44

uh in nodes um you know there's in in-house decor items that will include plants that will

  • 44:50

progress and as you kind of grow it and give it one of the ideas i really like

  • 44:56

in some of the decor pieces is and we'll see if we can get this added i

  • 45:01

don't see it as an issue but i've always kind of liked the idea sorry no no no it's not

  • 45:06

i don't it's not too big of a hassle but essentially having decor items that are relevant right we've talked a little bit

  • 45:12

about like how you can have stoves and how you can have you know ovens and whatnot and those will augment kind of buffs that you can eat and whatnot well

  • 45:18

the same is true for potentially you know house plants as well if you have a decor item that's a house plant

  • 45:24

it should be essentially the same basin logic as what's out in the garden you can put a

  • 45:29

seed in there and perhaps certain seeds will have different meshes that represent different life stages that the plant is

  • 45:35

at right like a little one bigger one and then full size adult one or whatever and if you do

  • 45:40

uh water it appropriately you know do whatever you can then harvest or yield from it you know

  • 45:46

a unique item that can only be coming from that particular decor item and then decor items are obviously

  • 45:51

classified according to tier and what size your home is will grant you different access to certain tiers of

  • 45:57

decor items right so perhaps only a mansion a person who owns a mansion

  • 46:03

category type home can have a particular potted plant that yields a unique item that's

  • 46:10

incorporated into the craftability of certain alchemical potions or crafted items whatever hey

  • 46:15

for people saying that plants are useless do not even come fight me water plants people um all right we're

  • 46:22

going to move on to character stuff so for those of you who paid attention

  • 46:28

to our creative director's letter you might have seen some of these but we also have some video footage for you and i know steven um also might have

shared some of these um as well but uh if you if you haven't been you know this is a great time to

keep up with things on our development update so look at that hair

these are so obviously as we continue to move forward in the uh character art towards

essentially when we get to a place of having the character creator we want to present to the players and you guys be

we take feedback from the players and and art is obviously a work in progress and you can see how if you look back you

know year and a half ago or two years ago where the character was or no don't not that jeff

if you look back three years ago will you really be scared but um you can see kind of how the character

progresses and this is a great example of of just the hairstyle and fidelity that's possible of these particular

uh hairstyles um this one was done by i believe ginsee and she did she knocked

this one out of the park but um just kind of gives you idea from a fidelity perspective where we're headed um

and here you can see male version of different hairstyles as well uh players can obviously select to to

have their uh their helmets uh visible or not visible and they can show off you know their

cool hairdos yeah they're cool hairdos they're cool

and we got our little dwarf friend here oh nice i love the the dwarven uh hair

get some information about that particular citizen such as guild affiliation uh society that they may be a part of

that information and we'll probably notify people as people join the city so

that'll probably be within that won't necessarily come across the screen per se but in the chat

box you'll have a dedicated node chat section that is just for citizens of the node

and you'll get the notification likely within that chat box so and so has joined the nation or so excuse me so-and-so has joined the note

people want to know if they can get voter vote by mail voter by mail well there's a lot of uh potential fraud

it says will items offered in personal shops player stalls and auction houses besides

raw and processed goods or will items such as gear and consumables be at risk

from a node siege so if you have if you have a little personal shop or a player stall up or

  • 1:03:56

auction house items up um will those be at risk if a node is sieged

  • 1:04:01

so um the way that the way that the stall works differently

  • 1:04:07

from the player shop right and there's two two ideas here the stall is a rentable space that does not require the player

  • 1:04:13

to be present in order to have the items actively available for purchase by other players they just rent the stall an npc there

  • 1:04:20

services the stall with what you've decided to link as either a service or an item to

  • 1:04:26

sell and that exists for a period of time and you pay for that period of time then you can leave and you can play a

  • 1:04:31

player shop is where you have a certificate to essentially create a shop with your

  • 1:04:37

character and a little billboard will pop up above you as you kind of sit down for that shop

  • 1:04:42

and kind of advertise a custom message that you want to use that you want to say and um that has to

  • 1:04:48

sell things and or services that are on your person so players can then come up to you and

  • 1:04:53

they can interact with you and they can so you're kind of you reside yourself to

  • 1:04:58

that shop with regards to sieges in the stall

  • 1:05:03

scenario you can link the stall to your warehouse so it doesn't just have to be

  • 1:05:10

in your inventory for the stall the stall can actually be linked to items in your warehouse and those items could include materials

  • 1:05:17

now materials are at risk during a castle siege excuse me during a um no it's during a

  • 1:05:23

node siege thank you so it is possible i guess in that sense that you could lose a portion of those

  • 1:05:29

items so you don't lose whole items in node sieges your all your warehouse contents don't

  • 1:05:34

aren't vulnerable for node sieges however materials are that then materials are either

  • 1:05:41

processed um raw materials using process gatherables or raw raw gatherables right those are the

  • 1:05:47

materials and the same could be true and said for the player shops if you get

  • 1:05:53

killed while being a shop you would then have the normal death penalty which could include a portion of

  • 1:05:58

your uh materials and or uh gatherables that are on your character yeah and we've answered the secondary

  • 1:06:05

part of that before in regards to materials and being lost and it's important to note by the way

  • 1:06:11

when and this is again this will be tested but in a in a node siege when the

  • 1:06:17

declaration occurs material goods within the warehouse of the node that

  • 1:06:24

has had a declaration made those are restricted from movement

  • 1:06:30

you can sell them to players through the stall um but you cannot incorporate

  • 1:06:37

a uh the warehouse connection with materials into a launching a caravan out of the node

  • 1:06:43

during the declaration period so it's essentially like all trade kind of you know comes to a little bit of a halt there

  • 1:06:49

and there's a risk associated with it so all right and then our next question is

  • 1:06:55

going to be in regards to secondary classes and felix wants to know or it's with a

  • 1:07:01

ph so i'm assuming it's felix or p likes the pilux uh will switching my secondary class be

  • 1:07:10

subject to a cool down period like can they just swap around or do they have kind of like a time frame that

they can't do it in we've talked about a number of different ways of doing it um there

probably will be a cool down there may be a quest associated with it which would function as a cool down um

we may allow you to have multiple specs that you could swap between with the cooldown so there's there's a couple

different ways that we've talked about it um we haven't really settled yet once we start actually implementing these

  • 1:07:39

secondary classes we'll be able to kind of get a better sense for how it feels um we want them to be flexible but we

  • 1:07:46

don't want them to be so flexible that you can um you know kind of change your character's character at a moment's

  • 1:07:52

notice um it probably you know at the very least would require going back to a node to swap it out

right um but um but you know it's something we're still playing with uh conceptually and then once once the

driver hits the road and we start testing it out then we'll have some better answers for you at that point okay yep yeah so you know follow-up up

i haven't chosen obviously i imagine i'll have multiple characters obvious that that will that will be different

classes and or races um i don't i typically in what i have played in mmos i've played

uh some caster types usually or a tank healer so really i i don't know i'm

across the board i don't really have a particular favorite i think originally i used to be a sorcerer mage

and then i really liked getting into tanks and like being a healer as well so i'm kind of everything i like like everything

because i don't want to just focus on stephen jeff what is your like what is your go-to normally

um so i'm almost always a hybrid class is usually where i end up i like being able to

  • 1:09:23

be that flex role um so i i do as much as i hate admitting it i do end up being the kind of like bard style

kind of class more often than not um uh and wow i played uh uh uh

druid for a long time um i'd be a moonkin um what else did i play i i

often m bards when i play a d and d um not on purpose just cause that just ends up being fun

he's a power gaming bard i am i am i feel like we actually the three of us make a great party because i

normally always am a tanker healer i like to make sure that you know everyone stays alive that we're

  • 1:10:02

pulling the right mobs or you know like those are i have a bit of a control problem i know it's because just like i just

  • 1:10:10

don't want anyone to die i don't want any like anything bad to happen i i don't i feel like you can fill dps but

  • 1:10:16

when it comes to like tanking and healing there's some level of skill there that to me

  • 1:10:22

if you don't have the right person in those jobs everything can fall apart like if you have a bad tank they're taking a ton of damage

  • 1:10:29

if they're pulling things improperly you're not gonna have a good time if you have a bad healer people are dying left and right so i

  • 1:10:34

feel like to me those are two really really strong classes that can turn the tide of a combat and and just

  • 1:10:40

to be clear for the audience so they're aware not only is jeff's last name barred but he went to bard college and he plays a

  • 1:10:46

bard so he's a trifecta of bards it's true he can also sing and he can sing that's right

  • 1:10:52

and perform he can perform as well we do have some plans for like like live

  • 1:10:59

events and i had like a town crier idea that would be in the booth and he was like i want to do that

  • 1:11:05

i was like okay jeff you're in um just to tell you a little sneak peek of

  • 1:11:10

some cool stuff that we have planned for on the marketing side our next question here is from about guild progression from cadec

  • 1:11:16

and they want to know well if we ever get to do events again um want to know will a guild be able to

  • 1:11:22

relocate slash respect their skill points like if they reduce their members and want to specialize in a more passive skill

  • 1:11:28

slash augments instead can they do that so um guild skill point allocation

  • 1:11:37

my initial position on that is it cannot be reallocated

  • 1:11:43

however that is subject to testing um the i and the reason for that is there's

  • 1:11:48

specific benefits that come along with your allocation choice

  • 1:11:54

and it would be a little gamey if in my opinion you could adjust your

  • 1:12:00

skill allocation to meet the immediate need and the moment uh that that's required so to

  • 1:12:06

speak like how you allocate skills can determine the size of your guild

  • 1:12:11

um and if you can if you can fluctuate that to be you know appropriate for specific

  • 1:12:18

circumstances like a castle siege or a guild war you could just kick out a bunch of members reallocate skills

  • 1:12:24

and become super like definitive force i don't like that idea so i am i my my my initial

  • 1:12:32

design choice there is no um but we're going to test obviously and see uh but i don't see that changing

  • 1:12:38

really so once you spec your guild you won't be able to change it

  • 1:12:44

correct yes now you can create another guild um and that other guild can take a

  • 1:12:50

different direction if you want and that would be in my opinion fair um but i do not believe that

  • 1:12:55

that guild because of how guild skills and skill allocation affects the guild

  • 1:13:01

size um i don't think that those should be uh able to be reallocated

  • 1:13:06

um and obviously we're gonna you know test things and things of that sort so everything's subject to change as always

  • 1:13:11

but um we will be showing off some guild system stuff uh in the future so stay tuned for

those things i know we have an article that's going to go over some of some of the guild abilities that are coming out as well so

yay um the next thing we have is from neurotoxin about hair

which we kind of showed off a little bit of hair before earlier on how will hair and beards interact with equipment and attire

in terms of hiding such remaining present while wearing headgear oh that's a good question because

sometimes like hair just disappears or it like there's a lot of inner penetration of hair in places because of

  • 1:13:45

the weirdness of it yeah it's usually problems it depends so i would imagine and i'll have to chat

  • 1:13:51

a little bit more with the character team on this but i believe that um helmets will be

  • 1:13:57

flagged as either removing facial hair or not depending on way that the that the mesh itself is constructed

  • 1:14:04

to either cover the face or not cover the face but in almost all circumstances the actual hair

  • 1:14:09

piece to the model will we can't have that inner penetrating you know through the helmet so that will be

  • 1:14:16

masked uh by the helmet being equipped now players can choose not to have the helmet shown and have their

  • 1:14:22

um you know their hair present uh but yeah that would i would say in almost all circumstances the hair

  • 1:14:27

itself with a helmet is is likely not going to be uh present in that regard all right and

  • 1:14:34

then our next question here is from anduin talking about dyes and they want to know will armor and cosmetic items have

  • 1:14:40

multiple slots for multiple dies or just one so for instance like

  • 1:14:45

if there's an outline on the outfit can i change just the outline color and then dye the in in size parts

  • 1:14:52

like a different color or is it going to be like i add a dye and it dyes the whole entire thing so if you add a die it's going to it's

  • 1:14:59

going to dye the relevant components of the set so for example

  • 1:15:05

if you have a full a full set of armor on you and it's a one piece

  • 1:15:10

cosmetic and you apply a dye to it there are going to be sections of the armor set that are

  • 1:15:17

flagged for accepting the dye color so it's going to change the accents

  • 1:15:23

along the along the piece perhaps more predominant single pieces or areas um but you will not be able to

  • 1:15:30

isolate you know specifically oh i just want this line to be that color and this line to be this color and create a

  • 1:15:36

rainbow set you know so to speak you're going to apply one die to one piece

  • 1:15:41

now you don't always have to have a single costume piece right you could have transmogs on

  • 1:15:47

individual items and you could apply dies to the different uh to the different items if they're

  • 1:15:53

individual pieces um so that's something to be said okay

  • 1:15:59

cool and then we have our next question which is about hitboxes from mazriel and nappy or masreal mazero

  • 1:16:06

mizreal let me know how i'm saying it uh hitboxes which is will hitboxes be standardized

  • 1:16:11

standardized for all races regardless of their size or will it change and i think we have discussed this a little bit i

  • 1:16:17

don't know if we've like put a standpoint on like what what our final decisions are and obviously i know you guys are going to be testing things throughout

  • 1:16:24

but what is your current stance on that so that's something we're we're going to

  • 1:16:29

be testing obviously there's a variance between the hitbox of a dwarf and an orc

  • 1:16:36

and that's an extreme variance there you know as we kind of approach it we

  • 1:16:42

have some ideas on how to accommodate different sizes of hitboxes

  • 1:16:49

not just from a stat perspective like but also from essentially a distance and

  • 1:16:55

projectile size as they approach a target per se now we don't have separate types of hitbox categories for example

  • 1:17:02

there's no head hit box in the mmorpg like there was in apoc so from a

  • 1:17:08

critical standpoint you know you're not going to see a greater risk of critting for a larger

  • 1:17:13

hitbox but the opportunity to hit a target um you know that's i don't know jeff you want to talk a

  • 1:17:19

little bit about that yeah i mean it's it's a thing that we have to be careful with and we are aware of sort of

  • 1:17:25

the the uh swappiness that can end up uh if you don't do this right

  • 1:17:31

especially when we're trying to kind of lean more into the action side of things um we don't want you know we don't want

  • 1:17:37

vec to be the number one choice because they're the hardest to hit right um but we also need to account for

  • 1:17:43

things like you know when you collide with stuff and where it makes sense to to be able to

  • 1:17:48

you know where you can access in the world right um can vec get into places with a smaller

  • 1:17:54

hitboxes that all other creatures can't we probably don't want that um so so more than likely we'll have some

  • 1:18:01

sort of unified or unified-ish um hitbox but again it's going to kind of

  • 1:18:07

we will probably have a unified hitbox with some some exceptions or some special um

  • 1:18:14

uh sort of collision rules based on them um as opposed to kind of just making it

  • 1:18:20

smaller for one and not the other um but yeah there's there's a lot of work that still needs to be done there and then to kind of figure out how we're

  • 1:18:26

going to address it um sort of in a from a technological standpoint i mean from a dwarven standpoint

  • 1:18:32

you know what the dwarf lacks in height it makes up in beard size so you can just have a very massive beard hit box

  • 1:18:38

for the dwarf it's true that's true and then it's comparable a little bit to the orc you know what i mean i'm just kidding but the poor vec don't

  • 1:18:45

have any that's true that's true it is unfortunate all right so hopefully that gives you a little bit more insight into

  • 1:18:51

it i know we have talked about that subject in the past a little bit but yeah it's a thing that we're aware of and

  • 1:18:57

we've talked a lot about it in the office and there's there's problems with every implementation of it right and so the

  • 1:19:02

goal is to try to find the least worst implementation of it um and then make sure that it's both fair and

  • 1:19:09

makes sense um from a world's perspective yeah all right our next question is from nick trina we

have one more after this uh and necrina's question is regarding the under realm will the under realm be

  • 1:19:20

contin uh contin continuous or consistent contiguous contiguous contiguous there we go or consistent of

a pocketed areas both um so

the continuity of the under realm area is going to be is going to be based off

  • 1:19:40

location so you're going to have pockets that are far more contiguous across certain regions than other areas

  • 1:19:49

and generally the under realm and its location throughout the world is going to be focused around natural

geographic choking choke points essentially that exist on the above ground locations

  • 1:20:02

so these kind of provide alternate methods of of routing for caravan movement for

  • 1:20:08

player movement for raid movement whatever um that that people can take advantage of

  • 1:20:13

does it is it contiguous across the entire you know subterranean area that exists within

  • 1:20:19

within vera no um there's going to be uh similar to above ground there's going to be areas that you know are obstructed by

  • 1:20:26

either large chasms or you know whatever uh similar to above ground how there are mountain ranges

  • 1:20:32

or you know water or whatever um so there's there's areas there that are that are

  • 1:20:37

going to be um uh confined to specific locales yeah and something we've talked about

  • 1:20:43

too um and i don't know we haven't talked about in a little while but um we've also talked about nodes uh node

  • 1:20:48

states affecting sort of what openings are open and what what uh what things are closed so

  • 1:20:53

not all entrances to the under realm will be open at the same time so that configuration can shift and

  • 1:21:00

different routes will open up and be more advantageous than other routes um things along those lines

  • 1:21:06

um so we want to kind of keep that part dynamic as well um but there's some some challenges there too so we'll see where we go with that

awesome and our final question here is from symex who wants to know about combat

pets if i'm a more dps oriented character can my combat pet support me with more

  • 1:21:27

tank oriented or heal oriented abilities or does it always match my primary focus

so combat pets are categorized by class as well and adhere to a simple

  • 1:21:40

trinity structure also so as players kind of determine what combat pet they

  • 1:21:45

want to aim for and i'm assuming you're talking about the universal combat pets and not summoner based

  • 1:21:50

summons essentially right so you can choose to have a more tank related pet that has tank oriented

  • 1:21:57

skills or you can choose to have a more dps related combat pet or a support

  • 1:22:03

type combat pet and those those will also exist they'll have different categories of

  • 1:22:09

rarity as well some that are more you know hard to to

  • 1:22:14

achieve but have better uh capabilities and skills

  • 1:22:30

is that a cat or is it professor mcgonagall it's not it's my combat pet okay very cool speaking of pets

um cool so before we go into all of our final stuff and wrap up the
