Primary skills (class abilities) are based on a player's archetype.[4][5]
- A player may choose a secondary archetype when they reach level 25.[6][7] The player can then augment their primary skills with effects from their secondary archetype.[4][6][7][5][8]
- Outside of class-specific skills there may be a subset of universal skills, such as active block and dodge.[9]
- Class skills are not affected by the type of weapon that is equipped.[10]
- Primary skills in Alpha-2 are expected to be very different to those in Alpha-1.[11]
Racial abilities
Karakter benefits in Ashes of Creation are tied to that character's background rather than their race.[12][13]
- We want players to have the freedom to choose the race they want to play because they're excited about it, and avoid situations where players feel forced to play a specific race because of gameplay benefits.[14]
- Rasszok are not gender or class locked.[15][16]
- Race likely won't affect the artisan system.[13][17]
- Race does not affect a character's base stats.[18]
- Some classes may work better with certain races but nothing is enforced.[15]
- A player's choice of race will influence their racial augments.[16]
Stat growth
- Stats can be improved based on gear, tattoos, and other enhancements, such as socketed items.[18]
- Players will have significant agency over the allocation of their stat progression.[18]

- Artisan profession does not affect a player's stats.[20]
- Previously it was stated that race "seeds" a player's base stats, then the primary archetype grows the base stats.[21][15][16] Any contribution by the secondary archetype was later removed.[21]
Racial augments
Racial augments are based on a character's race and are available to each class.[22]
- These apply to abilities on a character's primary archetype.[16]
- They affect how the ability works and can also apply cosmetic effects.[23]
Religious augments
Strong religions provide unique augments that can be applied to a player's primary skills.[24][25]
- Religious augments are considered top-tier achievements within a religion.[24]
- These augments can be stacked on top of class augments. They will have a give-and-take system based on the choices a player makes.[24]
You're going to have advancement within the religion and within the church that you're a part of. And those advancements are going to be both reflective of the community's development of that religion out in the world: Building temples, building infrastructure for that, completing certain quests for it; and then you will benefit from the community's development of that specific religion via having certain augment abilities that you'll gain access to be able to apply on top of your secondary class augments to skills; and it's going to reflect what the nature of that religion is.[26] – Steven Sharif
Skill transfer
Players will not be able to transfer their skills to other players.[27]
